Food security depends on agricultural research

John Kennelly, dean of agricultural, life and environmental sciences at the University of Alberta, and Alastair Cribb, dean of veterinary medicine at the University of Calgary, recently teamed up on behalf of Canada's deans of agriculture and veterinary medicine to make the case for more investment in agricultural and food research.

Noting the challenges of global food demand, high food prices and concerns about food security, the two deans say Canada needs a holistic approach to research investment to help meet these challenges while creating economic benefits at home.
