(Edmonton) Mark Haroun, writer and executive story editor for CBC's Heartland, rounds out our Read-In Week video series.

Haroun, who received an English degree from the U of A in 2003, won the university's Horizon Alumni Award in 2009 for accomplishing great things within 10 years of graduation. He is a Gemini-nominated television writer and playwright. His play for young audiences, A Giraffe in Paris, premiered at the Citadel Theatre in 2005 and was later produced in Montreal at Geordie Productions. It went on to win an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award and was shortlisted for the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama at the Alberta Book Awards.

He has also been awarded the Canadian Authors Association-Book Television's Emerging Writer Award. His most recent play, Under Cover, premiered in October of 2010.

Friday he read to an enthralled group of children from Windsor Park Elementary School. Earlier this week kids at the school heard from Tololwa Mollel, Thomas Trofimuk, Anna Marie Sewell and Juliet McMaster.
